Herb's StoryHerb building a retaining wall

Interviewer's note: When I called Herb to ask about his experience with EECP, he said, " As you are talking to me, I am outside with my cell phone and I am building a retaining wall. I am lifting 40 lb blocks and I sure as heck couldn’t do that before the EECP." We went right over and interviewed him in his back yard while he worked.

Interviewer: How did your angina affect your life?

Herb: The thing that bothered me the most was how it slowed me down. I would take the dog for a walk just down the street and it was getting harder and harder to simply walk around the neighborhood. Also, I have a Disc Jockey business that involves carrying equipment and it was getting hard too keep up with it. My kids work with me and they were picking up the slack but I felt that I was too young to have this happen to me.

Interviewer: Where did you hear about EECP?

Herb: My doctor referred me. I was 52 at the time and I was beginning to feel like an old man. That was just not acceptable to me. There were a lot of things I wanted to do. My doctor suggested I give EECP a try.

Interviewer: What about the actual therapy? Can you tell us how you felt?

Herb: At first, there was a little discomfort, but Barbara made a few adjustments and I felt fine for the rest of the treatments. I brought a little mini-CD player and listened to music that I hadn’t heard in 20 years.

Interviewer: Are you pleased with the results of your EECP therapy?

Herb: I can walk as long as I want without getting out of breath. I still take the pills but I don’t get out of breath the way I used to. Let me put it this way, my kids have trouble keeping up with the old man. They should be helping me build this wall.

Interviewer: What would you say to someone who was considering EECP?

Herb: If anyone is thinking about EECP, I would tell them to absolutely do it. It only takes an hour of your time each day for a few weeks. There is no pain. It is non-invasive. The improvement was amazing for me.
