Nunzio's Story

Nunzio is a retired firefighter who underwent a quintuple bypass in 1987. He felt fine for 10 or 11 years after the bypass but developed angina around 1997. He would feel angina pains a few times a week which his medicine would help him manage. He also noticed that he felt winded climbing the stairs.

Since completing his treatment he has felt no angina pain. After just a few weeks of treatment he would take the stairs rather than the elevator to the Cardiac Care Center at Granite just because he enjoyed walking again.

Interviewer: How severe was your angina?

Nunzio: A few times a week I would feel some pain and take pills. It was not a constant thing but would happen when I exerted myself.

Interviewer: What was the EECP treatment like?

Nunzio: It was pleasant. I enjoyed talking to Barbara and I watched TV. I like golf so I would bring my golf videos and watch them to pass the time.

Interviewer: How did you hear about the EECP program?

Nunzio: I read The Ledger article and it got me interested. I discussed it with my cardiologist and decided to give it a try.

Interviewer: Have you been more active since you completed EECP?

Nunzio: I noticed an improvement after a few weeks, while I was still doing the EECP treatment. I am enjoying walking again and I am looking forward to playing golf this spring. I think I will be able to enjoy golf more this year.

Interviewer: What would you say to someone who was considering EECP?

Nunzio: I highly recommend it. I have had no pain since I completed the treatment.
