Granite Medical Group Receives Reaccreditation for Cardiac Nuclear Testing

QUINCY 1/30/12 Granite Medical Group in Quincy, MA has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in Nuclear Cardiology and General Nuclear Medicine by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL). Granite Medical Group first received accreditation in 2009.

Accreditation by the ICANL means Granite Medical Group has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts.

“Reaccreditation from ICANL is an affirmation of Granite Medical’s commitment to providing quality cardiac care to our patients,” said Robert Calway, Chief Operating Officer.

ICANL accreditation serves as a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indication that the facility has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations considered relevant by medical experts in the field of nuclear medicine. Accreditation is granted only to facilities found to be providing quality patient care in compliance with national standards. There is a comprehensive application process including a detailed case study review.
Nuclear testing helps to measure how well blood flows to the heart muscle, to detect damaged heart muscle and to check the effectiveness of the heart’s pumping function. During testing, safe radioactive “tracers” are sent through the circulatory system to the heart. The tracers release energy which is detected by nuclear testing equipment and used to provide detailed information to cardiologists.
